While I was interviewing candidates for a position that involved a lot of customer-facing social-media/events and content production, I received a series of video submissions as part of the screening process.
One would think that, if you are interviewing for a job, and taking the time to create a video, you would – oh, I don’t know – prepare for it?
One submission I received was from a person, in their kitchen, with a panoramic view of their kitchen counter, complete with a mountain of dirty dishes that rivaled the landscape of Mordor.
If that weren’t enough, their clothes were disheveled and also they mumbled their speech throughout the video.
This was a classic example of what not to hire.
