Sort of.
There are a lot of reported incidents where people have been walked off of planes for making stupid comments – including getting arrested.
Professor suspected of being a terrorist because of a math equation
Man uses bomb hoax to delay flight but he didn’t expect this to happen
Man arrested for creating panic on plane – The Express Tribune
Student removed from Southwest flight after speaking Arabic on plane
And so on.

Yes – except I have been the friend that has refused to speak to the other person.
I was extremely close to someone, and unfortunately their life took a destructive path. They had made choice after choice to stay on that path, and when it was clear that no amount of interaction from anyone else, no interventions, nothing was going to enable them to change course, I simply said that I couldn’t be a part of their life anymore.
It was a frank and honest discussion. I told them I was fully aware that it was my weakness that didn’t allow me to be strong enough to stick by them through any more downs (because there simply weren’t any ups), but if they ever chose a different way, they’d know where to find me.
I do keep an eye out – I am also a pretty visible person.
I’m still waiting though.

I lived abroad for almost 4 years and always had secured employment or a means of funding prior to doing so. This made things vastly easier, as living in a foreign country (even one that is “familiar” to you) will present you daily with things you do not understand that can cause frustration.
Removing a major source of uncertainty from that equation will be a huge help to you.

I asked what we would be funded for…
The person remarked:
“Don’t be silly, Heather, you know ideas don’t get funded… Teams do.”
I threw up in my mouth a little at that one, honestly.
Not because the person was wrong – More that they were pretty much on the money, and it disgusted me to be any part of it.
The reality is, at least with the Unicorn startups, there are fewer than 5% females in the top executive positions and on boards, and the number of minorities there isn’t high either.
As for overcoming bias – you can get funded if you can prove that you are without a doubt the right team to get things done. That takes gravitas. It takes confidence.
By asking this question, it seems you may have a lack of some.

To some people, a job is a job. You take it and you do the job, and that “s that.
However, if you take a job that you “re not culturally aligned with, you won “t perform to the best of your abilities, and your work will suffer for it.
If you don “t *enjoy what you do*, it shows. Other people aren “t going to want to work with you. You aren “t going to want to come in to the office. Eventually, you “re just going to dread that job you took for the paycheck.
And then you “ll end up getting fired.
So while it was poor performance that did them in, it was almost always culture fit that was the cause.

Here’s an exercise for you to think about (you can only say yes to one):
Would you be 100% cool with your life up to this point if you were hit by a bus and killed minutes after reading this?
Or
Are there things you wish you could do but are putting them off for a later time?
If the answer to the first question is Yes, awesome, keep doing what you are doing – you are currently regret-free (at least the type of regrets that will nag at you on your deathbed.)
However, if the answer to the second question is yes, stop and have a think about what you are currently missing in your life, and find a way to incorporate that in as quickly as possible. You may not need to quit your job, but you might need to make some changes so that you can get yourself to a point where you are happy with your life.
