I see the thanks feature as a sort of “Double-upvote.”
I have my Quora settings set so that I don’t see every single upvote (as a Top Writer, my notifications feed would go haywire). I do, however, see it when people click “Thanks.” It lets me know that I touched someone.
I don’t respond to “upvotes”, and I don’t respond to “Thanks” (other than simply writing more.)
I do respond to comments and messages, as I see those as like 10000x an Upvote and Thanks. It takes a lot of effort to put yourself out there and write something and I want to acknowledge that.
