For 5 years, including my time during the early days at Evernote, I was a Digital Nomad. I never was in one place longer than 2 weeks – be it on my boat, my RV, a hotel room at one of the offices… whatever.
I loved it.
The best part about it is that you get to choose your location. Money isn’t the primary driver in my life – experience is. When faced with joining a new startup and all the craziness that goes with that, I picked a town called La Paz to move to; a location that literally means “Peace.”
When stress started to get to me, I moved to the Happiest Place on Earth – Disney World, just feet from the Magic Kingdom in their own Fort Wilderness – and made that my “home base.”
It’s amazing – if you don’t need structure to rule your life.
I actually filled a book writing about my experiences juggling the nomad lifestyle while building a successful company.
