There is a difference between being entrepreneurial and being an entrepreneur.
If I were your coach, I would definitely be working with you to determine exactly which of those you are – and more importantly, which you want to be.
Based on what you’ve written here, I see that you value the certainty of tenure and like to mitigate risk, which is a huge red flag to me for being an entrepreneur/owner on your own, but you could look into a tech transfer partnership with entrepreneurs either locally in your town or in one that is set up to work with IP from people who are still in their main position.
