This entirely depends on both the stage of the company and what your personal aims are.
When coaching people, my overall methodology centers around helping you staying focused on what you most want to achieve.
If a company is going through a rough transition, with lots of people coming and going, lots of backstabby, gossipy or just plain scared employees around you, what’s the best thing for you to do? Join in and go down with them, or keep your head on your work, do well, and last through the tough times?
On the flip side, if everything is going well in a company, you may need to do something to stand out from the crowd, or you could become redundant as they have time to evaluate all staff.
It is a delicate balance, but there are more variables at play than simply your own desires.
