Showed up.
I am a fairly independent person. One could say fiercely independent.
I often say “I got this” or “no worries.” So much so that I can push people away with my confidence, because they believe I don’t need anything from them.
Well, we all need something. Contact, relationships, something, human interaction.
I hate asking for things for myself. I really do. For example, I have given way more recommendations over the years than I’ve ever gotten simply because I don’t ask for them.
So, when going through some serious medical issues , I was fully prepared to do it alone. And yet I found I had a group of people at the ready to be there for me recently, without me asking.
When I had a fairly important event in my career, people were there again, without my needing to say a word.
And when I had some life challenges, again, people were there for me – without my asking.
That’s something that makes me pause, and be thankful, every time.
