Penultimate was designed to help replace the notepad and reduce the use of physical paper.
When using a stylus to write on a screen, the physical size of the screen makes a huge difference in the amount of information you are able to seamlessly capture. It is not a resolution issue, as when you are actually writing the content, the average person is simply unable to write as “much” as easily as if you have a larger landscape.
So, for User Experience reasons, it was not designed for iPhone use.
That is not to say that it won’t ever be updated in the future, but I don’t see it as likely.
