On the airline I worked for, there was no provided entertainment. No video screens; No in-flight magazines. And I was working as a Flight Attendant before the invention of the iPod, iPhone, iPad, eBook, long form laptop battery and other tablet devices. If you didn’t bring a book or newspaper, you had to entertain yourself.
The human eye is naturally drawn to motion and color.
Flight Attendants are moving on a plane where no one else is. Their uniforms are often colorful (or at least a consistent color scheme compared to the rest of the plane.)
It is therefore expected that the majority of eyes will be on them, the majority of time, simply by default.
It is therefore easy to ignore, as it is simply as much background noise as the engine hum.
