As a person who has a Liberal Arts degree from a school that relied heavily on Socrates, Aristotle, Newton, Galileo – all the greats, I can tell you that I think having ideas is wonderful! Without dreamers, philosophers, scientists and people encouraged to have ideas, we wouldn’t be able to understand our world the way we do.
Indeed, we’ve had some dark periods in our history where the very act of having ideas was regulated and discouraged. Not cool at all!
So, ideas are awesome!
What is even more awesome is *doing* something with them.
Here’s a handy chart showing exactly how much more:

Think about it this way:
If you have an idea, and don’t tell anyone about it, and never do anything about it, and then you die, it’s as if that idea never existed.
If, however, you have a brilliant idea and write it down, but never do anything about it yourself in your lifetime, it is worth something (but not much.)
Let’s say someone comes along 100 years later, finds your idea, and makes it. They now become a billionaire because of your idea. Yay for them!
Would you be cursing your misfortune from the afterlife? After all, they stole your idea! How dare they!
This happens all the time, with and without the 100 year shift. An idea is not worth much if it sits stagnant. It needs to get out and be tried out. If it doesn’t, the world loses out on some amazing things.
Once your idea has become tested and gained traction, then you can go find funding.
