My husband and I used to own Segways.
When people saw them, they almost always wanted to try them out. It happened so frequently that we started giving ourselves extra time to get places.
Why?
So we could offer to let people try them out.
Most people would be too scared, even with the knee pads and helmet we had on hand. There would always be one that was enterprising enough to get on board, and watching their tenuous expression turn into a huge face-engulfing smile complete with shining eyes was worth it every time.
Not once did anyone try to hurt us, even if I was by myself, nor did I ever feel in danger. And if I was in a hurry and didn’t have time to give rides, I simply said so and they left me alone.
I would ask that you determine what it is that so worrying to you about people asking to try out your hoverboard.
If it’s that they won’t take proper care of it, take precautions.
If it’s that they could get hurt, mitigate it.
If it’s that you simply don’t want anyone else to use it, that’s cool too.
Whatever it is, make sure you clarify your reasoning with yourself first so that you can be firm with others.
