Yes, have as many mentors as you want.
Just remember though – There are two different types of mentors:
passive mentors and active mentors
Most mentors you will have in your life won’t even know they are your mentor. These are passive mentors.
They are the ones you look up – the people you copy the look of online. The authors whose books you love. The design team who did the amazing opening to that tv show that opened your mind creatively – these guys are out there, influencing you in ways that you may not even conscioisly realize.
Then, there are your active mentors. These are people who come into your life and you get to interact with them directly.
It can be once ever, or once a day – it doesn’t matter… When you get your time with them, listen to what they have to say, whether or not you have asked a question.
The wisdom they can give you is important, regardless of your needs.
If you have specific questions you want someone to answer for you, you probably want to hire a consultant. Mentors are only able to give you what they have available – and will likely let you down if you are depending on them to pay attention to you.
The president’s advisors are all paid to be there for him. Yes, they are experts, but it is also their job to be there.
(Quora is great because there are people willing to answer questions, but they do it on their own schedule.)
