I definitely think this would be different depending on the country and the culture you are traveling to.
For example, in the middle east, I have had much different experiences as a woman than I do in Eastern Europe.
I have been a solo traveler, but more recently I tend to travel with my husband.
In one situation however, I was sitting by myself in a cafe in a Western European country, reading a book, and no fewer than 5 gentlemen came up to offer me a ride back to my hotel within a 10 minute period. This stopped as soon as my husband joined me.
In another country, a similar thing happened, however my husband was sitting with me at the time. The men actually came to talk to my husband, and not to me.
To keep this in perspective, people have also tried to purchase our cat from us when we’re walking with him on the street, so I don’t feel too flattered.
We just chalk things up to the differences between cultures and roll with it.
