It has already started – but like all things it takes a while for technology to catch up with research.
The next wave of investment is in Cybernetic technologies – all varieties, especially ones that focus around augmented and artificial intelligence, biomechatronics, and microbiomes.
For companies of the future to be successful in an investor’s eyes, they must play on a higher scale – the problems they are solving must be ones that affect on a human level.
Companies that make the quality of human life better, in an effortless way, for the whole planet – items like better ways to grow and deliver food, clean water, affordable, renewable sources of energy, even enhancements to our bodies themselves to make them work more efficiently.
We are seeing some of the earliest examples of this with genetically modified food crops that enable them to grow in harsh conditions, drones that are able to deliver items to remote locations, 3D printed prosthetics that are available for a fraction of the cost of their predecessors, Tesla battery packs, and so on.
If you want specific industries – FoodTech, NanoTech, VR/AR Tech, MedTech and GreenTech are pretty good places to start.
As with anything, you’ll need to find the needle in the haystack, and even then it isn’t a sure bet. But if you get the right idea, the right team and your timing is right, you can change the world.
