This actually came up as a question during a keynote I gave recently (I’ll attach it at the bottom just in case you’re interested), so its most definitely on people’s minds.
I don’t believe that funding is skewed in favor of men. I believe that men are more inclined to ask for funding. When you have a confident, driven, inspirational and well-spoken woman who is willing to put herself into the gauntlet, she gets funded. They just don’t come around very often.
As I live in Las Vegas (one of the top cities for female founded businesses in the United States), I can tell you that when you have a strong tribe of supportive men and women that bands together, you don’t need VCs to make sustainable businesses. Many women therefore aren’t focused on VC funding, they’re focused on making businesses that work.’
