Poll every digital nomad and I suspect you “ll get a slightly different answer. They “ll say things like “I like my space” and “I work better without distractions” or even my personal go-to: “I like changes of scenery.”
What it actually boils down to is control.
People who choose to work remotely have one thing in common:
They want to be able to choose their work environment, be it quiet, crowded, exotic, hot, freezing, full of cats… whatever.
They “ll come up with a million and one rationalizations as to why working at home, on a beach, in a hotel room, in a coffeeshop, on a boat (ahem) is way better than working in an office.
And they “ll all sound rational. And some of them may actually be true.
But realistically, working remotely is no better than working in an office (it “s no worse, either. It just *is*).
(Even as I type that, I have a ton of arguments for remote work that are bubbling up as to why I would want to convince someone how it “s better, for example how it can save money on office space – but I know as a business owner that you lose money elsewhere in the training/tools for distributed team management and multiple state business registration so this becomes a wash argument.)
But yeah, for people (like me) who like to work remote, its about controlling our workplace to be our best selves.
